Site Foreperson
Sunco Drywall Ltd, an established and reputable Construction Company seeks an experienced Site Foreperson.

Skills/Qualifications:
Approved courses in safety, leadership and reading and interpreting blueprints. Standard First Aid Certificate. Has own transportation and a valid Driver’s License with clean driver abstract. Has at least one year of construction experience, preferably as a “lead hand”. Good written and verbal communication skills combined with experience with Excel and Word. Ability to work in a deadline orientated atmosphere. current tickets in First Aid, Fall Pro and AWP are an asset.

Job Purpose and Responsibilities:
The Site Foreman position is a critical person of the construction team. The Site Foreman must maintain a professional relationship with the Prime/General Contractor, Consultants and Owner during construction. The Site Foreman also works closely with the Sunco Project Manager: keeping the PM continuously updated with site/project issues.

Safety
The Site Foreman has the primary responsibility for providing the leadership and oversight that results in a safe working environment and work culture. The Site Foreman is responsible for and accountable for the safety of the crews under his direction. He must understand and accept the importance and legal liability of this role. This will include:
- Knowing and understanding the requirements of and liabilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and policies in accordance with Sunco’s
- Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Program.
- Reporting weekly to the Project Manager, the names of all staff who require safety training.
- Participating in and monitoring Safety Tool Box Meetings on a weekly basis.
- Ensuring completion of initial and ongoing site safety and hazard assessments.
- Providing answers to any technical safety questions.
- Participating in Safety Incident Investigations and reviews.
- Ensuring timely responses, actions and corrections to all safety issues.
- Ensuring that appropriate safety equipment is always worn by site personnel.
- Ensuring that all requests to perform unsafe work practices that may result in damage to machinery, people or property, are declined.
- Ensuring current and relevant Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are on site and readily available to all site personnel.
- Reporting, in writing, all safety violations, incidents or near miss incidents to the Sunco Branch Office within 24 hours of occurrence.
- Reporting immediately, verbally to Sunco Branch Office, all safety violations, incidents or near miss incidents.
Quality Control
The Site Foreman is accountable for ensuring that all work meets standards and for implementing work processes to improve productivity and product quality. This includes:
- Gaining an understanding of the relevant project specifications and drawings prior to the commencement of any site work.
- Overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production by ensuring that the crews work to job specifications and drawings.
- Notifying the General Superintendent or Project Manager of any defects, mistakes, errors, contamination or variations identified.
- Reviewing Inspection Reports and coordinating resolution of any noted deficiencies.
- Ensuring all the applicable quality checklists (ie. Material inspections, work task job-ready inspections, work task completion inspections) are properly completed and submitted to the appropriate personnel within Sunco and/or to the Prime Contractor before proceeding to the next task.
- Overseeing the maintenance of all equipment.
Planning & Scheduling
The Site Foreman is accountable for following project plans and schedules and ensuring that crews under his direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet production goals. This includes:
- Hiring of adequate manpower in accordance with company policy.
- Identifying needs and deficiencies in the “Look Ahead Schedule” and communicating with these to the appropriate persons.
- Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for each crew.
- Reviewing and adjusting specific workforce activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules.
- Working with the crew to overcome site challenges.
- Identifying, verifying and reporting any scheduling conflicts with other crews and contractors to the appropriate persons.
- Communicating and coordinating with other trades to avoid and resolve conflicts.
Purchasing
The Site Foreman has the responsibility for purchasing supplies following the relevant company policies and procedures. This includes:
- Identifying ongoing material requirements and ordering the necessary materials in accordance with Sunco’s Purchase Order policy.
- Ensuring material codes are accurately written on the.Purchase Order.
- Ensuring timely delivery of completed PO’s (with pick-up/delivery slip attached, if applicable) to appropriate Head Office personnel.
- Ensure appropriate Sunco procedure has been followed when tools and/or equipment are being purchased by Sunco and charged to an employee.
Leadership and Supervision
The Site Foreman is the voice of the company for the crews under his direction. He is required to be involved and supportive of any day to day disciplinary decisions and those additional discipline actions deemed appropriate by Sunco’s General Manager, Project Manager or District Manager.
Leadership and supervision tasks include:
- Assigning the appropriate equipment, tools and material to do the job.
- Assigning crew tasks.
- Setting and maintaining work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity.
- Making himself available as a coach or mentor in assisting crew members to develop their skills.
- Understand the importance of apprenticeship training and facilitate mentoring of apprentices by journeymen.
- Monitoring the level of skills/ability of personnel on an ongoing basis in order to determine suitability for future work.
- Ensure relevant information is communicated to personnel so that they are able to effectively carry out their function.
- Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues or problems among or between crews.
- Applying the company’s corrective action policy where applicable.
- Applying the principles of workplace respect on site,
- Promoting and fostering a positive team attitude.
- Terminating crew members in accordance with the company’s policy.
- Monitoring site clean-up.
- Attend all job site meetings, ie. Trade Meetings, Consultant Meeting, Joint Safety, etc.
- Pre-inspect steel studs before calling Sunco’s engineer for a review.
General Administration
The Site Foreman is responsible for the accurate completion of various reports and general administrative duties such as:
- Ensuring foreman’s logs are maintained.
- Verbally reporting to the Project Manager on crew production, work progress and substantive changes.
- Following, accurately completing and reporting tracking sheets for Change Directive work.
- Reviewing time sheets and Sub-Contractor invoices for accuracy and completeness, signing the time sheets and/or Sub invoices and submitting them to the Project Manager each pay period.
- Distributing pay cheques and handling problems with pay cheques.
- Ensure Project Manager is promptly provided with all relevant documentation received from the Prime Contractor or other authorities.
- Respond daily to any emails or “Requests for Information” from the Prime Contractor.
